  Derek Butcher VP & GENERAL MANAGER

As General Manager of The Industry Standard, Derek is responsible for the management, editorial, sales, and strategy of the business.

He has over 11 years of experience in media and technology with well-known companies such as IDG, Disney, Infoseek, and Adobe. Previously, Derek served as Vice President and CTO of InfoWorld Media Group. There he helped lead InfoWorld back to profitability, and transition the media property into an online-only publication. In his role as CTO, he was charged with spearheading technology initiatives including web publishing systems, content redistribution and syndication, and web serving capacity. Derek also served as Senior Engineering Manager at Disney Internet Group, where he was responsible for the development of the Infoseek search engine portal, as well as assisting with the integration of espn.com and abcnews.com.

Derek studied Computer Science and Psychology in the Bachelor of Science Honors Program at the University of Washington, where he also researched virtual reality interfaces at the Human Interface Technology Lab.
